Parks, Arts & Recreation Plan

2008-2009 Parks, Arts & Recreation Plan Update

The Olympia Parks, Arts & Recreation Department is currently in the process of updating the Parks, Arts & Recreation Plan.  The update is divided into three sections:  "Where are we now?", "Where do we want to be?", and "How are we going to get there?".

    Plan Update Schedule

During the "Where do we want to be?" phase, staff has solicited input on the plan in six different ways:

  • Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Meetings
  • Olympia Arts Commission
  • Public Input Workshop
  • Public E-mails
  • Staff Input Workshops
  • City Council Retreat

"Where do we want to be?" Feedback Summary

Rather than develop a plan that starts with facilities, we have taken a look at using community values as the base for building the updated plan.

Values-Based Approach to Programs and Projects

As we move towards the "How do we get there?" phase, we will look at projects in three categories:

  1. Currently funded in Capital Facilities Plan
  2. Projects in-process but lacking funding
  3. Potential new projects
